Flavored cold drinks are definitely one of the best way to refresh and beat the hot weather. Aside from the usual sodas and iced coffee, milk tea has been one of most craved treat to get things coolin’.
Last May 31, Black Sugar opened its first branch in McKinley West, Taguig city. They offer savory snacks and of course, the star of the show, milk tea and fruit teas! What better way to try it than with the Hey Manila team?

We got to try one of each from their series of cold drinks: Black Sugar, Milk Tea, Fruit Tea, Charcoal Series, Fresh Fruit Shake and, Fruity Bubble Soda. They also have the hot variety, Lava Hot Drinks which you can opt in case the weather’s too cold for you.

Their drink comes in 2 sizes, 500 ml and 700 ml. The plastic cups they use for the cold drinks are also re-usable. You can also re-use it in purchasing their drinks to get a Php 5 discount.
I tried the Grass Jelly Milk tea from their Milk Tea series. I was a bit skeptic as to why they did not ask for the sugar level preference. But upon tasting the drink, my tita heart is happy! It’s not too sweet nor too bitter. Black Sugar did not fail with perfecting that balance between the bitter goodness of the tea embracing the creaminess of the milk.

We also got to try their fries, cheese sticks, and Fish Tofu. The fries were cooked perfectly and not soggy. Cheese sticks had the right amount of cheese that you get to taste on your first bite. The Fish Tofu was so flavorful even without a sauce. Although as Filipinos, we sort of agreed it would taste good with vinegar. Hehe. Snacks were also served in cute and pastel colored plates that is just instagrammable.

The whole place is instagram worthy, actually. Hehe!

You can visit Black Sugar in Asia Town Park McKinley West Taguig City. They’re open from 11AM to 10PM. Or let me know if you need directions, I'll be glad to go back there and ride a taxi during lunch break. :P
You can give them a like on their Facebook page Black Sugar and follow them on Instagram Black Sugar Tea.
